I love the extra fine nib on the twsbi's but sadly after having my ECO crack on me I decided to upgrade to the diamond mini. And I am defiantly not disappointed it is a wonderful little pen that lends itself to long writing sessions. Just another one to add to my growing collection.

My Grandmother gave me a fountain pen when I was a kid. I keep it for sentimental reasons, but it no longer writes well. So when I saw Jeff Rubin's interview with Brad Dowdy in the July/August issue of "mental floss" magazine, I decided to spring for a new fountain pen. Brad, "uniter of the writing obsessed" runs a podcast called "The Pen Addict", and I figured he knows of what he speaks.Brad is asked, "What's your go-to [pen]?" and he replies, "TWSBI, a Taiwanese maker of high-quality, good-value fountain pens." So here I am, the proud new owner of the "TWSBI Diamond Mini Clear Fountain Pen EF nib." I agree that it is a fine pen.Salient points:1. Comes in a plastic case, held steady by two clear plastic pieces for traveling [see the photo attached]. If you want to just use the case as a holder on your desk, you take off the clear plastic pieces, and just set the pen on the standing feet.2. This is an EF = Extra Fine nib and that means just what it says. It makes a clear line, but it is fine. See the 2nd attached photo of the notes I made for myself in preparing for this review. This is a delicate writing line - you won't want to use this pen if you are trying to replicate writing from an old quill pen.3. This is a MINI pen. It is only 4.5" long and about 1/2" diameter at its widest point. I wanted a shorter slimmer pen because I have small hands.4. This is extremely easy to fill with ink from an inkwell. The 3rd photo attached shows the directions that come with the pen. There is a plunger-like mechanism. Twist the plunger all the way down, insert nib into the ink, twist the plunger up to fill with ink. The directions show the bottom plastic casing of the pen below the ink line, so that's how I held the pen while filling it. If you do that, though, you have to have a doubled-paper towel to wipe off the ink on the casing, or your hands will be inked.I have had no trouble with this pen skipping or spurting or splotching. The only time the writing doesn't look good is when I hurry my writing (as I would with a ball-point).The writing sample pictured uses this pen on Rhodia paper. The Rhodia brand was also recommended by Brad Dowdy, "the best paper!". He also says, "If you can find quality paper, it's going to make crummy pens write better, and vice versa."Here's the tablet I wrote on for the sample:There are a lot of fine inks out there. The sample I attached uses this ink in my new TWSBI Diamond Mini Clear Fountain Pen:I am having a lot of fun with this pen. But, with a fountain pen, I can't just "dash off" a note - I have to slow down a bit.Happy Reader
