I ordered this kit because original BMW parts are very expensive, and it realistically doesn't make much sense to buy OEM parts for a vehicle that's worth a few thousand dollars. Just the crankcase ventilation hose cost more from the dealer than this entire kit.By now, most BMWs that use this CCV system are at least 20 years old and have brittle old plastics. Just doing a valve cover gasket job could easily cause an original hose to crack, which was what happened in my case. I replaced only the top tube with the one from this kit, but I did compare sizes and design with the original parts still on my car, and everything measures up & looks the same. I can't comment on the inner workings of the actual oil separator, but from the outside it appears almost identical to the OEM one.The ends of each hose will connect & "click" easier if using a bit of grease or lubrication on the ends. Good kit to keep on hand in case you break something during regular maintenance, or are just trying to keep your car repair costs down. Oh, and you don't need that foam piece overtop of the crankcase vent return pipe. They replicated the original design for vehicles equipped with the "Cold Climate" package. My 2001 never had it and has been driven in Canadian winters without that foam from factory.
