i tried several large fans and this is by far, the winner. it sits perfectly up a few inches which helps distribute the air but also for me, helps not to have vibration noises. it is powerful and a super quality product, and i have tried several.

Ceiling fans are great. They are often all you need for a comfortable night's sleep and even when you do need to kick on the A/C they can reduce your need for it. But you can't necessarily put a ceiling fan everywhere you might want one. This is basically the next best thing. You put it in a corner, aim it at the ceiling and bam, you have the air circulating in even a very large room in much the same way as if you had a ceiling fan.I have this in a very large, 30 x 20 room and it does a good job creating a nice even air circulation throughout the entire room. The other thing I will use it for is to quickly cool down after I come in from working outside in the heat. If you point it at yourself directly it will cool you down quickly. But normally this thing is pushing so much air you don't really want it pointed directly at you.It is very well built, I've used it now for several years, pretty regularly all summer long and it has held up just fine.Only downsides: it is a bit noisier than a good quality ceiling fan because the blades are much smaller while pushing an equivalent amount of air, and I wish it were easier to take apart and clean. I wouldn't say the noise is a deal-breaker, but I typically run it on medium and not high.

I've spent months agonizing over a new fan. None of the reviews gave me what I wanted, ok; this listings reviews were somewhat similar to what I was looking for so I took a chance. SO! What do I want? Well, I have a floor fan, a Stanley 20 inch (st-20f). We all know how amazing floor fans are, and I love my big yellow beast, but it is so loud. I enjoy a bit of white noise but we can't hear the TV or normal house noises over the Stanley on medium. So for power/air flow/cooling comparison, my Stanley on medium moves roughly 4500 cubic feet per minute. This fan is laughable at its 100 cfm. However, the design of the fan itself led me to believe it was worth a try. We have this pointed at our bed and our bed is in a corner, so it's prime location for the air disbursement illustrated in the ad. I had my doubts after setting it up and laying in bed with it on medium for a few minutes but decided to give it a shot overnight; My partner started with it on high and within an hour I was asked to turn it down because it was too chilly. We live in Florida lol So I turned it down to medium and it gave us a bundled up temperature for the rest of the night. It gave us a better cooling effect on medium, that the Stanley would give us on high.NOW for noise! I need a fan at night, regardless of situation, I need the white noise. But I hate how loud the floor fans are. I've never been able to find a quiet fan, that gives the same power as a floor fan. This fan, on medium, gives the same amount of noise as the Stanley does on it's low setting. Loud enough to satisfy the sleep needs, quiet enough to hear the TV, house noises, and conversation without having to raise our voices. For placement reference I attached photos of how the fan is positioned and a shot from behind the fan to our bed. It's a pretty big room, not giant, but larger than most. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone out there looking for a quiet fan without compromising on circulation/cooling power.

I was looking or a bedside table fan to create white noise and keep us cool in the summer months. Somewhere along the research process I forgot to look at physical size and focused on CFM and thus found this fan which I felt was the best bang for the buck listed... Well, I should have paid closer attention as it's a little large to fit on my large nightstand (which is really a small rectangular table) as the fan shroud is over 15" across, and the base alone needs 15"x16". So it lives in my office where it serves two purposes - cooling & white noise. On the lowest setting is very quite while still moving 351 cfm (per vortex). For comparison, several hand held, entry level leaf blowers run at 350cfmMedium changes the game significantly - I wasn't able to find any published cfm for this setting, but would guess it is somewhere close to the middle between the low (351) and high (583) setting (467 cfm?) This is the setting I usually use as it generates a good amount of white noise on medium without turning my office into a tornado. It is enough white noise to drown out my family on the other side of my office's french doors while also moving a significant amount of air which helps keep my area cool (several computers/monitors and other electric devices constantly running in a closed space). Without a fan, it can get over 100 F in there. With a fan I'm usually > 10 F hotter then the rest of the house (I aim the fan at the underside of one of the two french doors to help exchange air as I have a exit vent from the HVAC system, but don't have a dedicated return vent in my office to help circulate the air).High moves 583 cfm which is too much air movement in that space. However, I could see using that setting if my A/C failed or if I needed to work in the attic and wanted to force house interior air up into the attic. The design allows the fan head to pivot around 45 degrees downward to 90 degrees straight up, and on High when pushing 583cfm, it would definitely blow enough air up from the floor through the attic ladder access opening to make working up there bearable.I love the Vornado fans, and have purchased at least 10 in the last decade. Out of those - two tower fans were broken out of the box (fan loose inside tower due to rough handling - shipping issue) and I believe it was three other smaller units actually failed before the warranty was expired (wouldn't spin on low setting). Vornado customer service is fantastic, a quick phone call, provide the the requested proof, and my replacement fan was shipped the same day. This is why I continue to purchase their fans! Be sure to register your fan when you receive it so you can be sure to get the full warranty time - Otherwise they may have to go by the sticker on the fan for date of mfg vs purchase date. I guess the days of having a fan last 10+ years are gone but I do hope this one is the exception...
