In spite of spraying on 2 clear coats, these discolored in a few months.

Time will tell as to durability, but the finish exactly matches a solar lighted house number box I recently installed on the mailbox post. If the top coat is UV resistant, it should hold up.

Most fence posts marked as 4x4 are actually 3.5"x3.5", and that applies to post caps as well. These are a measured 3.5"x3.5" but they are meant to be used on "4x4" fence posts. The caps are attractive, well made and well packaged. The ones I applied to some of my posts still look new after a difficult, wet Summer and a bitter-cold, wet Winter. These would be perfect if the manufacturer had pre-drilled holes on the cap edges and supplied two brass nails. But you can always use some brass brads and pre-drill or pre-punch holes yourself, which is what I did. (Not much work for a highly finished look!)See my books on money at Amazon here:

These post caps really enhanced the look of my privacy fences. I originally had the plain, builder's grade caps that looked and felt like tin. These caps are an elegant copper color that compliment the redwood color of the fencing. I am very pleased with this item and would purchase again.

Nice item but the sunlight shining on these was like a laser into my house. They stood out like beacons. The caps seem to be coated with a clear polyurathane. I actually prefer the blue-green patina that comes with aging copper, so I took some fine steel wool and sanded them slightly. Now they are starting to age and are less shiny/reflective/obvious.They are also easy to install. No drilling. Just put some liquid nails around the edges and bam!
