Seems heavy duty and long lasting. Has decent weight and doesn’t seem flimsy in the slightest. The handles could be better built to help the hands, comfort wise. It’s a bit to,e consuming to clean but if it’s constantly being used then it shouldn’t be necessary to clean every crevice each wash cycle. Overall I’m happy with it

The positives: The first thing you'll notice when you open this is how sturdy it is. It feels like a tool that will last so long that you'll be able to hand down to your grandchildren. It works great, getting potatoes just the right texture. So far I've only used it on potatoes, but of course you could mash just about anything with it. (I don't think the juicing would work very well though - you'd likely end up with juice squirting all over the place.)There are two negatives:1) It makes a mess of itself, getting potatoes all over the hopper & around the hinge area. I thought that since it's dishwasher safe, that would do the trick, but it doesn't. Even after pre-cleaning it with hot water and a brush, then putting it in the dishwasher, it still had little potato bits all over it that I had to pick off with my nails. See my photos. Also just a side note, the product page says that it has removable parts, but it does not.2) The way the handles are shaped make it uncomfortable to squeeze more than a few times. It sure would have been nice if they would have put some kind of padding on the handles. I was able to slide those pot handle hot pads over them and that helps somewhat, but if I had to do a lot of mashing, I'd probably choose a different tool.

This item is big so be sure you have somewhere to store it. I guess these have to be big by their very nature, which is fine but when I opened it, I had no idea! With limited cabinet space, I had to sort of re-organize things. But I used this the other night for the first time, having no real idea about how mashed potato-changing it would be!! I boiled small chunks of peeled potatoes to fork tender, then I allowed them to cool for a few minutes so as not to burn myself when loading the hopper. Then, I just squeezed the handles together, which was so easy to do, and voilà! Riced potatoes. I had gotten my mixer out and ready to mix. I loaded my bowl first with some slices of butter. Then, as I was mixing the potatoes with the butter it was clear, I would not need a mixer. It was amazing as mashed potatoes just sort of happened! And so easily. I added sour cream and a touch of cream. These were the creamiest, most lump free mashed potatoes I ever made and without a mixer! I don’t know why I waited so long to get one. If you love creamy mashed potats, this is a must-have kitchen tool. It will change your potato life if you’ve never used one.

This rices potatoes so that mashed potatoes have a smooth silky texture that I absolutely love! No more clumps and no sticky potatoes. If you use a beater, the potatoes come out like glue. This ricer is a must if you really like mashed potatoes and like them smooth with no lumps. It is sturdy and large enough so that you can do a decent batch each time. The negative is that the handles are terrible. They definitely need to improve the handles. I need to wear a pair of gloves or mittens to work it because the handles hurt so much when pressing the potatoes through.I looked at other ricers, and this one is priced very well - so I would say this is a great value. But if the handles hurting is an issue for you, you might want to get a higher priced ricer that has better handles that have grips or something so it doesn't hurt so much to use. Otherwise, use some gloves like I do.
