I ordered these to add vent holes to the "eave area" of a pre-built shed that basically has no eave at all. I am insulating the interior and wanted to create a vented roof to dissipate heat and moisture as recommended for our climate. The shed basically has a 1.5" area that I could drill holes through to create venting for the roof assembly which isn't much and not enough for regular soffit vents. I ordered these 3/4" vents for this project even though the depth these are meant to go though is much less than the the thickness of the wood - so these don't just lock into place in my use-they seemed like they would stay in place but I was able to use adhesive / sealant in caulk gun form to seal and fix these into the holes even better and ensure the won't fall out in the changing weather that might change the size of the holes - they seem to be working well and have stayed in with out any movement using big stretch sealant - honestly I am still working work how many of these i need to have in each bay for proper ventilation so at this time I have just used 1 or 2 in a couple of bays and am anxiously awaiting hot weather to see how this performs before proceeding. I think the size is about as big as I could use without causing damage but i could add a third hole or reduce to 1 per Bay if that is,enoughSo I am trying to find out more information about how much intake air space is needed to make the venting perform properly before Swiss cheesing the whole thing but I am finding it is hard to get a straight forward answer!! These were a cool find for this purpose. I am curious to see if carpenter bees try to enter these vents and how all that plays out the holes are smaller than the ones they generally enter and there is a mesh inside that should keep out most other things as well. Depending on what I see happening when they appear this year I may add steel wool into the holes before placing more of these. For now I've moved on to building out the interior and will wait to see how to proceed with these vents. Yes this whole idea of venting the roof has got me nervous, lol. My plan is to take temperature readings in the test bays using 1 and 2 holes and determine if the temperature difference can tell me how to best proceed. Overall I am happy with these and I will definitely order again if my tests indicate I need more ventilation!! These were easy to make holes for using spiral bit. I tested the hole sizing and usage of these in a test 2x board prior to attempting on the building itself just to be sure it didn't end up with holes I couldn't cover properly :)These are really made to go through thinner materials like metal and have tabs that keep them secured when pushed through. My use is not the intended use but has worked to provide a covered vented opening with some adaptations to fixing in place. I'm hoping these prove to be the solution im looking for and that they are big enough to adequately vent the bays !

I installed these in a soffit to improve airflow to the attic. I wanted something that would be quality and last but not obvious at a glance. These have been perfect. They are small but provide good air flow. They snap in easily. I used a paintable caulk to hold them in place, then painted to match the soffit color. I'm really happy with them and will get more as I continue to enclose the soffits of our home. Great product!
