This Yamaha snare drum arrived several days ago; I was able to purchase it at 109 and change. What a bargain. I was impressed by the weight as I took the drum out of the box... it was on the heavier side. I was expecting something lightweight given the price. The materials and finish are excellent. It was easy and quick to tune up, all I added were a couple of small gel dampeners near the top edge to control ring to my satisfaction. Everything about the drum is good solid Yamaha quality. I have lots of other snare drums, most much more expensive, including Tama Starclassic, Rogers Dyna-sonic (late 1960s), Slingerland, Mapex, Gretsch, Ludwig, Premier, Dixon, PDP and others. This one stands up well to most of them and is definitely the best bargain. I will be changing out the batter head and maybe the reso head to Remo Coated Ambassador on top and something else (I have to try a few) for the reso to further perfect the sound. If you're looking for a new steel snare, I don't think you'll need to look past this one in the 14" x 5.5" range. This model is easily tuned to low or mid or high. Count me as very pleasantly surprised! Five stars, easily.

My old kit snare was just not cutting it anymore. I bought this steel snare (the steel feels just like what they use in 55 gallon drums!) and updated it with top-of-the-line Remo heads (it comes with Remo "UR" heads, but I've been using these center dot ones for years) wooden hoops (helps eliminate "ring") and a "Fat Cat" snare wire (the provided snare wire is average). It's well made and has a nice "B" stand off. My playing has improved because I don't need to hit as hard. My snare rolls and fills are nicer, too. If you're looking for a economy priced snare drum for playing rock this is pretty nice!

Sold my drums and ended up in need of a new snare that could save my life and wasn’t so expensive. I was divided between the Ludwig and the Yamaha on the same price range. After follow my instincts, decided to go with the Yamaha since it’s cheaper than the Ludwig and I’m confident this snare can last forever. This snare is very well finished, beautiful and it sounds amazing! So I couldn’t ask for anything else.Yamaha is the best!
