Would not recommend for repair. Thread taper is angled and intended for self tap but tapers smaller at base. For transmission and oil pans where there is thin base this does not allow for enough bite.

Skeptical at first especially with low cost of this product that substituted for a lengthy and expensive repair of removing and replacing oil pan (that was stripped). Plug is only nominally bigger than original but that was all it took for it to bite and create new threads and result in a leak proof seal.

Product works as intended. And it gives you extra crush washers, so I was able to do a couple of oil changes without having to purchase more washers.
