After 1.5 years power cycles on and off and sometimes shuts off completely. Works well when it stays on.

I bought this to give me a functional rear-view mirror in a camper van with an obstructed view. It has performed great and I am very satisfied. The cameras and display are solid and very well made. The display is bright, sharp, and easily visible during both day and night. I used the supplied glare reducing screen cover and agree with other reviewers that this is better installed before you attach the display to your mirror. I put it on as the last step and ended up with some bubbles. It does noticeably cut the glare. The 33-foot rear camera cable was plenty long enough for my van application. I opted for the direct wire kit, which was barely long enough to reach my fuse box. With built-in fuses on the ends of the wires, it was very easy to connect to spare fuse locations. Be sure to install the front facing camera right side up. I did not and had to redo it after I turned on the display and discovered my mistake. The rear camera has an excellent field of view and great resolution. The rear view on the display is even adjustable up and down by sliding the display with your finger. This is great for fine tuning your view of the road behind. To view the rear display as true mirrored image, you need to flip the display in settings. The only problem with this is that the text on the recordings (date, time, GPS data) appears as a mirrored image as well, even though it appears correctly on the display itself. The viewer software was not easy to find. Support was very responsive via email and helpful. I had to email support for a link to a website that prompted all sorts of virus protection warnings. However, I was able to download and install the viewer application (Car Player) and it works reasonably well. I found another viewer program (GPS Player) on the flash card after formatting the card. On that version, the GPS map view did not work, but I could view the videos. Overall, this product exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it, especially for those wishing for a rear view to replace a physical mirror with an obstructed view.

OK, this is an outstanding product, remarkably high-quality mirror-screen & video images; you can find plenty of reviews here that tell you that … and I agree with them. Instead I wanted to share a lot of useful information I discovered about this system while installing and using it. It appears that Pormido is frequently updating the hardware & software for this model. Accordingly note that your device may differ somewhat from the information I have provided below:* This PR998 model has a FRONT CAMERA EXTERNAL TO THE MIRROR-SCREEN (versus a front camera that is integrated WAY-OFF-CENTER into the back of the mirror-screen). THIS IS A HUGE ADVANTAGE … and only a very few dashcam systems offer it in a mirror-screen based system. You can 3M-mount this external front camera to the center inside of your front windshield, behind your OEM rear-view mirror … so that the image/view on the mirror-screen and your recordings will also be centered-up. Plus you can twist the mirror-screen into any which-way-you-want position so as to optimize your viewing of the mirror-screen without affecting where the front camera is actually pointing. Further, your video recordings will not incorporate any shaking of the rear view mirror. Also, integrated front camera dashcams can present problems being properly aligned while still allowing the sunvisor(s) to clear; not a problem with this dashcam system.* I mounted the rear camera to the top, center, inside of my rear window. The rear camera has a 150° field-of-view. VERY WIDE PANORAMIC IMAGE AND MY SIDE BLIND SPOTS ARE NOW GONE!!! The device ships with a bracket specifically designed for mounting the rear camera in this position. Note that this position will NOT work well for use as a back-up/parking-assist camera (with those red/yellow/green lines for 'aiming' your vehicle). I didn't need that functionality since I already have an OEM back-up/parking-assist camera that displays in my center console. If you do not need the back-up/parking-assist function, do NOT connect the red wire (at the rear camera socket) to your reverse bulbs. (The red wire is NOT for powering the rear camera; it throws power from your reverse bulbs to a switch that 'tells' the mirror-screen to change into rear camera view/mode and display the red/yellow/green lines.) Even with the red wire not connected, your rear camera will still display on the mirror-screen correctly and it will still record rear camera videos correctly.* This website title says the camera resolutions are 1296p. And it said so when I bought it. However one of the images here at left top of the website states 1920x1080p. In yet another place on this website, toward the bottom, the resolution is specified as '1296P(Front)+1080P(Rear).' To add further ambiguity, my instruction manual says the available resolutions are 1080p/30fps or 720p/25fps. My mirror-screen menu has no option for changing resolution. (Based on watching older video reviews of this device, I can say that older versions of this device DID offer a 1080/720 adjustment.) Based on reading the properties of the files created, my snapshots/photos/JPGs as well as my front&rear videos are truly/actually 1920x1080,16.7M colors.* I hard-wired this device to 'accessory-on-power,' not 'always-on-power.' Doing the latter risks trickle-draining your battery until it is dead (while the device is running its 'Parking Monitoring' function). That function will monitor for impact-events while the vehicle is parked engine-off and, if an impact-event occurs, the device will record a SINGLE 30-second video clip AFTER the impact-event. To me, one 30-second video, perhaps recorded 'too late,' did not seem to be a feature worth preserving, given the downside risk of killing the battery.* I found that the EASY WAY TO HARDWIRE THIS SYSTEM was to use the provided 12v male 'cigarette lighter' power plug … and plug it intothat had red & black leads that I could then connect to a source of 'accessory-on-power.' If you want to instead try Pormido's hard-wiring solution, that is an optional $20 'hardwire kit' (B08GQXF32D) that is supposed to defeat battery trickle by powering down the system whenever low battery voltage is detected. Before purchasing it be sure to read the reviews … it has pretty short wires … and it also has a 1" square switch box that has to be mounted somewhere that is driver-accessible.* The device came with a Pormido-branded 32g microSD card. That capacity should provide about 1.5 hours or recording time (front + rear). The device can support up to as much as 128g capacity. On eBay I found for $15 a new-old-stock, still in its retail packaging, Samsung EVOPlus Class10 128g microSD card with a very fast (90Mb/s) write speed. (Newer cards have mostly been cheapened with slower write speeds.) That capacity should provide about 6 hours of recording time (before the oldest recording is automatically written over by the newest recording). To insert the microSD card correctly, face its gold contacts toward the front windshield (not toward the cabin area). The slot IS the standard 'push-in, push-pop-out' type, but it's a bit sticky/tricky; you have to push it 'just right' to get the card to pop out.* When you insert a new microSD card, the mirror-screen will ask you to use the Settings menu to format the card. The formatting option is located toward the very bottom of the Settings menu. Your microSD card will be formatted with a FAT32 file system. (This is true even if your card is >32Gb and so likely came originally formatted with an exFAT file system.) The process will also create the folder structure (as described further below) that it requires/expects in order to store the various videos & snapshots/photos/JPGs.* With a fast 128g microSD card & 6 hours of recording time, you can safely turn off the "G-Sensor" function … that will automatically lock a file (to prevent its erasure) that is being recorded if the sensor detects an impact-event. The idea, of course, is to protect a file that has recorded an auto accident. However the G-Sensor function will also lock files when you hit potholes, smack concrete parking stops, get popped by bridge expansion joints and other such whatnot ... even door & trunk closings! Next thing you know, your microSD card is filled-up with needlessly-locked files, causing your older unlocked files to be overwritten way too quickly and frequently. With a 128g microSD card installed and the G-Sensor turned off, however, you can rest easy that any important file will not be written-over until at least 6 more hours of recording has transpired.* The website has an 'important installation tip' that is NOT mentioned in the installation manual: "Please have the camera wire plug from LEFT side of the mirror - DO NOT flip over, then the rear camera can be well recognized by the mirror screen." What this apparently means (in more-plain English) is that the dual end of the Y-adapter (into which you plug both the front and rear camera wires) MUST be facing/pointing leftward, toward the driver's side, in order for the rear camera to work properly. Why or how this would/could be, who knows, but apparently that's the way it is (according to at least one other reviewer).* The mirror-screen menu has a 'image mirroring' function (for the rear camera). You need to have this turned on (and that is the default setting). It makes the driver's side of the image appear on the LEFT-hand side of the mirror-screen, just as it would in a regular rear view mirror. Think about it; your rear camera is pointing back outward from the rear of the car, so the driver's side is seen by the camera as being on the RIGHT-hand side. So the image has to be left-to-right flipped so you can use the mirror-screen as a rear view mirror. The 'image mirroring' function will cause license plates and such to be seen 'backwards/flipped.' The mirror-screen menu also has a 'rear flip' function. It flips the rear image vertically, top-to-bottom, in case you had to install the rear camera 'upside down.' The default setting is off.* I did NOT purchase the optional $20 Pormido GPS Antenna (B0832PZBK2). The only functionality that it adds is latitude/longitude, speed and compass-direction imprinted on your mirror-screen and video recordings. And also it automatically synchronizes the time/date (which you can easily set manually anyway). You do NOT need the GPS antenna to make the rear camera function properly (even though some reviewers here have said so). If you buy it and install it, you will just have another wire to stash. And the 1" 'Chunky-candy-bar-style' antenna has to be mounted somewhere so as to have satellite line-of-sight (such as 3M-ing it to the inside of your windshield … or to the outside of your vehicle).* When you press the Playback button on the mirror-screen, you will see a vertical stack of four icons at-left and a list of files at-right. The four icons, from top to bottom, are: (1) unlocked front camera video files, (2) locked front camera video files, (3) snapshot/photo/JPG files and (4) rear camera video files. You have to tap on a stack icon to change the view to see the associated list of files.* This device records video files in .ts format (not in .mp4 format), a format rarely used anymore. However there are many free websites available where you can upload a .ts file, convert it to a .mp4 file and then download the converted .mp4 file. And many popular video players, such as VLC & Media Player Classic, will readily play .ts files anyway.* The videos recorded from the front & rear cameras are a wee bit fish-eyed and truncated on the left & right edges; said another way, they are not as 'broad and straight and undistorted' as the image displayed in the mirror-screen. And, in the same manner, when you display the front camera and rear camera simultaneously on the mirror-screen, the two side-by-side images are a wee bit fish-eyed and truncated on their left & right edges.* When you press the snapshot/photo/JPG button on the mirror-screen, you will be saving TWO snapshots/photos/JPGs, one from the front camera (into microSD card folder /Photo/F/), another from the rear camera (into microSD card folder /Photo/R/). You can use the mirror-screen to view the front camera snapshots/photos/JPGs. But you CANNOT use the mirror-screen to view the rear camera snapshots/photos/JPGs; you will have to pull the microSD card and access/transfer the rear camera snapshots/photos/JPGs using another device.* Unlocked front camera video files are stored into microSD card folder /Normal/F/. Unlocked rear camera video files are stored into microSD card folder /Normal/R/. Front camera video files locked by an impact-event will be moved into microSD card folder /Event/F/ … and rear camera video files locked by an impact-event will be moved into microSD card folder /Event/R/.* The same is true if you use the mirror-screen menu to manually lock a video. The front camera file will be moved out of microSD card folder /Normal/F/ and moved into microSD card folder /Event/F/ … and the rear camera file will be moved out of microSD card folder /Normal/R/ and moved into microSD card folder /Event/R/.* My unit came with a pre-cut thin anti-glare film to apply to the mirror-screen (quite similar to the protector film you apply to cellphone screens). To be used IF you need it. Whether you need it or not depends upon how much bright sunlight is entering your vehicle. I have (legal) tint all the way around, even my windshield is tinted down to the AS1 line … and I still needed it. Installing it yielded a MAJOR reduction in glare without any diminishment in mirror-screen image quality. There was also an extra/spare film included, sweet. The film will be much easier to install on the mirror-screen if you do it at the very FIRST of the installation process … before the mirror-screen is actually installed/mounted in the vehicle. If you 'mess-up' and so need more of these pre-cut films, Pormido sells them here on Amazon (B08P43GWV4).* The mirror-screen makes a short 'dink' noise when powering up/down. The upper-left corner of the mirror-screen shows a flashing red dot and timestamp indicating it is recording and for how long. Neither of these functions can be turned off.* The product information on this webpage states "1 Lithium Ion batteries required." Either that's an error or it is referring to an internal battery. If there is a place to swap out a Li-Ion coin battery, I sure can't find it.* The Pormido store in Amazon offers all the extras, accessories and replacement items you might need for this system: replacement front & rear cameras, their hardwire kit, the GPS antenna, replacement cables, extension cables, longer cables, replacement mirror-screen rubber straps, extra anti-glare films, replacement camera mounting brackets … and even a third 'room camera' (for viewing the entire interior of the vehicle cabin).* The only points-of-contact provided by the manufacturer are several emails listed in the instruction manual. I emailed a very short & simple question to all of the given emails … more than once … sent from TWO different email addresses ... and there was NEVER any response. There is a company website [pormido.net] but there's almost nothing there. And there are no phone numbers. YMMV, but be prepared for ZERO customer service/support.Happy motoring !!

This is by far the best of 4 mirror/dashcams that I've tried, but there is certainly room for improvement. When I started looking for a rear view mirror / dash cam I didn't realize it it would be so difficult. First I bought a Jomise G810 that had the front camera on the back that wouldn't fit on my existing mirror. Then I bought an 11" GKU that was far from being 11" in any dimension. Diagonally it was only 9.4" which was way too small. Next I got a KQQ 12" that I really tried to like, but couldn't. Their customer service was very responsive and they did help resolve a couple of issues, but the recorded video from the rear camera was mirror image and I couldn't change it in the recording. The final straw was the first time I drove at night. The headlights bloomed so badly it wasn't safe to use.So, I spent a lot more money and got the Pormido 12" dual camera. I was disappointed that it didn't come with the GPS antenna. Every other cheap mirror I tried included the GPS antenna. I went for a night drive right after it was installed, and I was very impressed with the night time performance. It really is the best feature of this mirror/camera. I had a lot of reflections during the day, but Pormidor included two anti-glare screen protectors that were pretty effective at reducing the glare. After using it for a month, I'm pretty satisfied, but not ecstatic. There are several things that I do not like:1. The recorded image quality is adequate, but don't expect to be able to read license plates or street signs unless they are very close. See the attached screenshots showing their viewer and a cropped image trying to capture the license plate of the a-hole that ran a red light right in front of me.2. The SD card is located on top between the connectors. It is extremely difficult to get out or put in. It should be on the side or even the bottom. Even better would be to have a USB connector on the side or bottom that could be connected to a laptop or a thumb drive to copy the files without needing to remove the SD card at all.3. The screen has sufficient brightness, but it desperately needs a contrast adjustment. Too often, everything is kind of washed out and making it brighter doesn't help. If the road is blackish, everything pops and the image is fantastic. But on a grayish freeway, light colored cars kind of blend in.4. I sit a parking lot for a few hours a week. If I want to listen to the radio, the mirror turns on also. The power button on the bottom only turns off the display, it doesn't stop it from recording. The only way to have ACCY Mode ON and not record is to unplug the mirror.5. Pormido needs to invest in a better viewer. There are some really good ones that, if you want, will simultaneous display front and rear views, GPS data, and map data. While some of these will simultaneously display the Pormido front and rear views, I couldn't find any that were compatible with the Pormidor GPS data. I contacted Pormido regarding their viewer, and they quickly sent a link to it. The GPS data works well and plays nicely with the built in Google Maps. But it only displays one camera at a time. It also crashes or stops responding fairly often, especially when trying to pause and restart. Another annoying thing is that it reverts back to KPH every time it opens. It would also be nice to have the ability to capture a snapshot. I would also like to be able to adjust the size for the map.Would I recommend this? Not without clarifying that this is not great, but it was the best I could find under $200 with a detached front camera.

I don't give five stars easily but I must say this Pormido PR998S mirror dashcam deserves it. I've been looking for a good mirror camera for my extended Ford Expedition for about a month and have ordered and returned many different mirror cameras. They just did not do what I believe they should to be in par with today's technology. I've been using this Pormido camera for about a week now and I must say I finally I found it, Pormido did it for me. In order of importance to me.1.Day and Night performance (auto white balance/HDR2.image quality (resolution) with no lag3.Useful/convenient programming features.4. Physical DesignIn detail here are my findings:1. The "wash-out factor" (auto white balance or active HDR) To me this is the most important feature, without a good auto white balance and/or a HDR feature the camera, when in direct sun light or at night with headlights pointing towards the camera, it will washout the image and make the camera completely useless. This is the main reason I returned all the previous cams, which would, somewhat, washout a part of the screen when in direct sunlight and wash out a BIG part of the screen at night when other headlights shine on you.I must say that this Pormido cam does a very good job at both. In direct sunlight the rest of the screen where the sun is not located is still very clear and in contrast. At night, other headlights close to you pointing directly into the camera look white with a controlled circle around it.It does a good job in dimming what otherwise would make the the majority of the screen white. Initially I thought the "other headlights" were too bright and I contacted Pormido about it; they responded saying that that was the best balance of dark and bright that they could achieve otherwise the entire screen would be too dark at night and not show any detail. After one week of use I concur with them. It does have a pretty good balance between how much "headlights" light it can dim off versus how much light it can let in so you can see better detail and a brighter image at night.2.The image quality/resolution is very good, 2k in the front and 1080 in the back camera. I noticed in these cameras that the front is always pretty good but the back camera is what varies in quality between different cams. I have seen same claimed resolution of 1080 with very bad quality on one and very good quality on another like this cam.So far I have not seen any skips or lag in live view, seems it has a decent processor.3. Is this cam has a ton of useful programming features which most are in par with other cameras but a few that are not found in other cams such as: the reversing lines can be stretched or shortened to be customized to your car or your preference when backing up. Also when in reverse you can swipe with a finger up or down for best viewing angle and then next time you put it in reverse it will remember where you left it. Another feature that I like which is very important to me as I think the whole idea about having a mirror cam is that you're using it when you're driving to see the cars behind you better, with a wider angle and with more clarity thus.....I do not like a busy screen with all kinds of data on it that I cannot remove. On the right of the screen it shows the time and date. The time digits are pretty big with the date directly underneath it. It's nice to have it if needed but I think that needs to be an option because I would like to drive just using it as a rear view mirror. Thanks to Pormido, they added a programming feature to make that hidden when streaming a live image. I did not see this option in any of the other cameras that I tried. With the hidden feature on, to see the time and date (among other data) all I have to do is touch the screen once and the info stays on screen for a few seconds and then disappears. Perfect. To me that is the best of all worlds. I believe the "customer" should have full control of what shows on the screen and what doesn't when you are driving. When recording there's a little red blinking dot on the top left of the screen to confirm that it's recording which is perfect but also it shows a little timer next to it. (some folks might like this on all the time, I just don't, it's distracting) I wish the timer had an option to hide it. Also even though I have not received my module yet, with a GPS module it shows two big vertical lines with the direction that you are driving N, W etc in between the two lines on the left middle of the screen. I wish there was an option to hide these two big vertical lines as well.It would be very easy for them to add these "hidden function" features via a firmware upgrade. Even though these are not deal breakers for me because this cam is excellent it would be very nice to have full control of the screen display. With these features, it would make this the perfect mirror camera. I am going to write to them and suggest to add these features maybe they will listen to me.4. Physical Design, so far, by what I have seen, this is the only camera where the front camera is completely detached from the actual mirror unit itself. To me this is a huge advantage because you can place the front camera lens closer to the window thus reducing glare, move it to any position you want and when installing the unit over your original mirror you can center it perfectly which you cannot do with a mirror camera that has the lens built into the unit. It will always stick a little bit to the left of your original mirror. In summary after trying many mirror dash cams this is by far the best one and I'm keeping this one.I hope this review was helpful to someone.
