I'm currently using this cable to hang outdoor lights. It's also being used in my shed to string between smaller sections so that I can hang some equipment off of it with carabiners. The cable has not rusted after two months of being outside and in the rain. It's very strong/durable as long as you aren't dragging it all over the place. The coating is black and works well to string lights across versus a lighter coating or none at all. It doesn't stand out during the day and disappears at night. The only issue that I've had with it is from constant use in my shed from hanging equipment from it. The cable itself is fine, but the coating is coming off a little here and there and showing the cable underneath. That doesn't bother me, though, and it is just for equipment. It's a great cable and we would definitely order more in the future. Included cutters are great and cut clean without any issue.

I ordered this stainless steel wire rope for fence reinforcement. This chloride- and salt-resistant Type 316 stainless steel wire rope is considered superior to Type 304 stainless steel wire rope; I'm not a metallurgist but I verified that this stainless steel wire rope is only weakly magnetic. In addition this wire rope's black coating is both elegant and corrosion-resistant for further protection. The wire rope has 7x7 (seven cores of seven strands each) construction that discourages cable end wire raveling; the wire rope has 1800 pounds breaking strength and can safely pull up to 260 pounds. 150 feet of wire rope is tightly wound on a plastic spool and is bound with cellophane. Be cautious when unwinding the cellophane: the coiled wire rope is tensioned and you'll lose the tight wrap if it springs loose. Otherwise 1/8" diameter wire rope is a really nice working material. The spooled wire rope and a 20 cm. (7.87") long cable cutter arrive packaged in a cardboard carton. The cutter easily cuts the 1/8" diameter wire rope and its concave jaws discourage cut end raveling. The cutter is well-made with one piece forged jaws/handles, a coiled extension spring, non-slip vinyl handle covers and an end safety clip. The vendor says the cutter can cut 5 mm. (3/16") diameter wire rope; this cutter IMO is sufficiently strong but I would prefer longer handles (greater leverage) when cutting 3/16" diameter wire rope.

Pros:- Supplied cutter works very well- Nice color – won’t stand out and interfere with your view- 7x7 construction verified (7 strands in a wire, 7 wires in the cable)- No evidence of rusting after salt water treatment and left outside for a week.Cons:- Strongly magnetic for T316 stainless steel- Stiff and unwinds from spoolThis cable has a nice black finish, but the blackness does come off of the wire when rubbed up against another surface or itself. Once the plastic wrap is taken off, the cable will uncoil itself from the reel.Per the manufacturer, this cable is constructed of T316 stainless steel, however when I tested it with a magnet, I found it to be strongly magnetic. This can happen with 316 stainless steel wire is cold drawn and not ‘re-austenitized’. I did test corrosion resistance by soaking a length of cable in slightly salty water and then leaving it outside for a week. I did not see any evidence of rust. So the cable is constructed from a type of stainless steel. The supplied cutting tool is very heavy duty and had no trouble cutting the cable without fraying. The edges of the cutter showed no evidence of damage after cutting.
