The tank elbows seem too be cheap and likely to break in the future. Being made with two part plastic the possible leak is mot too be ignored. I installed this into an existing setup replacing a fluval 303. And found it hard too get started, the pump just did not get siphon going and I had to attach a hose to the tank inlet side and start the siphon there. It did start up then and runs very quietly, and cleared the tank within and hour after a 90% clean of the glass and gravel. The one thing that could be improved is that there should be a bigger foam that fills one basket completely. On the basket side of things, they do not interlock very well, as in being able to assemble out of the filter and insert them all into the canister at once, so attention needs to be used to make sure that each basket seats into the one below it, before adding the next one. Quality so far is ok, but not at the level of a Fluval, plastic parts seem cheaper especially with the 180° tank elbows.

Great! A canister filter that is a better price than name brands in store. For good reason. Easy to assemble - make sure you take the carbon out of the plastic. I READ THE INSTRUCTIONS...and wouldn't you know it, the darn thing isn't priming. Plug it in and yep, sounds like a rock tumbler I can hear all through the house. Unplug, pull it all apart including the propeller to see if something was packaged in there by error, nope. In the process of lifting it out of my laundry tub, the handle breaks and now guess what? I have to buy a new laundry tub because the thing put a hole in mine. So much for saving money! Finally got it primed, all the air out of the canister and it's still louder than my air pump. This isn't my first canister filter. I will not be keeping it or buying this one again. Cheap plastic.

Seen few negative reviews but truly bad apples everywhere right>? love it, been a month "knock on wood" no leaks, extremely silent. follow directions and all will be well. I only used the black sponge and floss for bottom tray and purchase ceramic rings and balls for 2-4 tray, I also prefer the spray bar inner two pointed slightly down outer two pointed slightly up keeps surface quite clear and definitely the tank in general. cheaper then big box brands and seems to do better in my 15 years experience.Update- two almost 3 yrs now with this filter. No issue whatsoever, has some biomedia and floss has kept my tank beautiful. Thanks. Updated because I'm considering a jump to 210gal so i was canister shopping and hey 315gal this does, so I'll probably just get a second.

OK, I'm not an idiot, most of the time. I took my 55 gallon tank down over 10 years ago but in this time of covid I thought I should have something to stare at besides TV. I was running an Eheim filter before but was missing some parts and as with everything in life was just cheaper to buy a whole new system. I research everything thoroughly before deciding. This one came in with great reviews. Indeed nice, easy compact system with great in and out put. Priming was very easy as well once I discovered you had to do that before you plugged it in. DUH. Large sized hoses. Probably could have got away with the 500 as my new tank is only 40. But in cases like this more IS better. I would rate it a solid 5 stars but.... I CANNOT turn off the water flow when doing maintenance. As i said, I understand water flow, gravity, valves etc. Because I went with the Fluval Stratum I have had to constantly replace my floss. Three times. First time read the three steps to do maintenance with leaving the hoses in tank. Not that hard. Turn off input, stop water flow in, disconnect tubing. Did that and ended up hosing down my walls, floors while I grabbed something for the water. Have a solid top tank, so by the time I removed the light strip and yanked out the intake tube there were quite a few gallons of carefully cycled water lost. Took my shop vac, fans and heaters to cleanup the mess. The cannister was still full of water so when I disconnected the output hose same thing. Not as much though of course. Thought I MUST be doing something wrong so second time, read the steps again but same result. At least I was better prepared this time. Same with third time. I have always used external filters and they all work pretty well the same. Have contacted customer service so will see what they say and will update. Its driving me crazy. Unless I somehow got a faulty unit? Looking forward to having some dry towels again.Dec. 27 update:I have NEVER hated a product as much as this. In fact I have never really hated anything/anybody up till now. The reason I bought this was all the excellent reviews, plus the price was reasonable. Did some re-scaping and stirred up my stratum so thought might as well do the filter as well. All good. Two of us had to spell each other off, as someone else mentioned its like performing CPR. Well, after 2.5 hours, including the 3 times I reopened the cannister to make sure the gaskets were lined up, I had to call time of death. I actually have a blister on the heel of my hand. Was soooo mad I took it and threw it across the yard, shattering it. Lucky I had my 'toy' filter on the tank as well. At least the water had some filtration going until I could get out and buy a different one. Another problem of this one is that it has a sizable gap between the cannister wall and the media baskets where the water will pass through unfiltered. If you insist on using this I would recommend stuffing that gap with something- floss, strips of sponge.

I thought this would've been good because of the reviews but mine arrived and stopped working. After a few hours i could smell a burning smell so i turned it off, ive tried everything but it didnt work and they didnt even get back to me when i tried to contact them. Thats 80 pounds wasted, please dont waste your money guys you can get a cheaper alternative that actually works great.

Funcional, silencioso y a buen precio. No le pide nada a los Fluval Hagen, Boyu y otras marcas que son más caras.
