One of the best NAS I've owned.just be aware this is one of those rack-mounted NAS. The noise from the fan is very laud. I put this in my basement so I don't hear anything but I know this is not the case for everyone.Otherwise, the build quality is very nice and works perfectly.

I have had a ton of diskstations, and they have worked really well. I got a rack mount so that it saves some space and goes under my Ubiquiti network equipment; however, it is so darn loud, that it is hard to justify keeping the power running on that device. It sits in my IT Cabinet "off" 95% of the time because it has such a loud drone sound. Like I said, I had the DS models, and the loudest thing you would hear was the hard drive heads reading and writing (very quiet), but this one sounds likes like a helicopter is in my closet (and that's on "quiet mode"). If I have the fans on cold mode then it is unbearable (in a residential house setting).I have loved Synology diskstations, but whatever the company is doing now is against the consumer.I bought drives that are not synology branded, and now the software is telling me that "your storage is at risk" and that I am running on unverified drives with lots of warnings. I work in cyber operations and I deal with Dell and HP systems - and none of the major brands require their own branded hard-drives. How could you make hardware for the general consumer to have a NAS at home and require them to only buy 1 type of hard-drive. I guess it is just for the profit because those hard-drives are super expensive with the synology branding. If I could do it all over again, I'd just get an 2nd-hand computer or server from a government auction and build-out my system using freeNAS because Synology has not been good (noise and proprietary nature of the hardware)
