This is a very good quality tatami mat. I’ve always slept on the typical box spring and overtime it just sinks and makes my back hurt. Being Japanese I figured I’d try out the more traditional Eastern style of sleeping. The tatami mat has a solid structure that’s noticeably softer than carpet. Just standing on it, the pressure on your feet is relieved. I originally intend to add a futon on top for sleeping but tried out sleeping the night just on the tatami mat. I had a great night sleep on it. I’m mostly a side sleeper so it did hurt my sides a bit but this is just on the tatami mat. If you add a futon it should feel a whole lot more comfortable.Overall, a solid tatami mat with good weight to it. Easily folds up and can function as a bottom bed piece, yoga, or standing mat.Just a word of warning, this has a strong bamboo odor when first unpacked. It only took a day for the smell to dissipate.

I just got it and i love how it looks and feel. it's the perfect size for my space and it actually decent quality. The only thing is that it smells really bad. i've kinda already gotten used to it after a couple hours but the first time was awful. Other than that i'm very happy.

I got the foldable one and the cushion it provides underneath my futon is perfect. folds up easily it's pretty light, great quality, I have experienced no excessive smell. When I first unfolded it in my room there was a light grassy smell, but I just personally love the smell of grass, so not a problem for me. Still, I cant even smell it now unless I used the mat for yoga and my face was right next to it. Maybe some peoples' mats use fresher/ healthier grass that smells more? I think this mat will last for a while the weave is sturdy and flexible under pressure of feet. I'm very impressed with this tatami

I don't believe the headline for a minute, but this IS a fantastic product. Durable, easy to clean, tons of utility. We use it for everything from a play mat to a day bed, and it travels pretty well. The child in question is a bit of an otaku, so there's been a fun cultural element in there as well; I get plenty of excuses to talk anthropology and history with them this way, and that's also got utility.これは素晴らしい製品です

The rush grass smells, yes is strong at first. Do not let this hinder you from trying a new way of sleeping. I do not mind the smell, so it was not a bother to me. I rather it smell true to the nature of the natural product (rush grass) than nothing at all.I purchased two twin mats to place side by side. My husband has one, and I have one. This allows us to keep the mats together or put away our mats as we wish. We used the mats first with a full-size mattress topper we have been using on the floor for the past year. We found too often we the mattress topper (the ones you put on a traditional American thick mattress) would slide up the tatami mats. The surface of the tatami is smooth, which caused this to be an issue. We now, however, decided to just sleep straight on the tatami mat. We have found this works best for us. We may go back to owning traditional shikibuton (we owned one without using a tatami mat before), once we save up for them, which would be a better fit for the tatami mat versus the mattress topper.I highly suggest you do your research on changing from a traditional way of sleeping on a bed frame and mattress to sleeping straight on a tatami mat/ and or with a shikibuton. Yes, the mat is firm at first. Our bodies are accustom to comfort and in time it will adjust if you stick with it and understand the transition from one style of sleep to another.
