So my Estwing deadblow is on its last leg. Amazon has another nearly like it. Perfect. In the cart it goes. But wait, what’s this in the “Others have purchased section”? (for 3x the price, mind you). It’s a Wiha German work of art. Now seriously, who needs to pay so much more for a tool that, by definition, is going to get whacked hard.Well with the Prime option in place, I figure I’ve gotta check this out. I’ll be near a Kohl’s next week anyway so easy to return.Except. it’s. Beautiful. A work of art. Heavy and solid with what looks like an armor powder coat of epoxy paint.Minimal bounce when used. Dead blow, check. So do I really need to keep this? Yes. It’s a proud addition. Only problem is now I need to keep using the old Estwing. The Wiha is too pretty to swing.

Maybe it’s just this particular size 802-50mm (49oz) that is made in Poland. I was hoping for one made in Germany like I’ve seen in another reviewer’s pictures of the 802-45mm size and the product picture as shown. The weld is not as nice and it really doesn’t have that nice hammer tone teal finish. It’s more of an ordinary blue hammer. Also the grip seems like more of a matte rubber and not shiny. The plastic yellow heads are a very hard composite. Testing it by tapping a few things it seems a little too bouncy for my taste for a dead blow. Seems more like a weighty mallet. You have to really put some muscle into it and focus the momentum of the bead/shot filling to get the hammer to “stick” down and act like a dead blow. Light taps are a bit bouncy and recoil. It feels a little overfilled with beads or shot. I prefer more space inside to generate momentum for the filling.Overall really sturdy deadblow, and it will probably serve well for its purpose..but I will probably return it because I’m picky 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is a very well made deadblow. I would recommend it to all.

Been beating on stuff with this hammer for two years and it keep performing well. Other than popping the yellow ends off on occasion it's done a great job.
