it works as intended i think. If you haven't used string instruments before, you need to scratch the rosin before applying it on the bow. a smooth rosin does not transfer. it sounds good but i'm not sure that I think the effect it worth the price. this is very neiche

The EASTROCK Guitar Bow is a small but nice version of an actual violin bow - same principle. And to be honest, you'll either love or hate this accessory. I'm rating it four stars for one specific reason and that is because I haven't had a lot of success (yet) with getting the bow to properly sound on an electric guitar, except for the lower, wound strings. It actually sounds better played on an acoustic guitar including even the non wound strings. The product page states "suitable for all types of guitars". The guitar bow is designed to bow either one or two strings at a time and on an electric guitar like a Strat or LP, you won't have a sound hole to bow in and out of. It may just take a little more practice on the electric guitar to make it sound better. A product demonstration video of the bow in action would be nice.I'm generally pleased overall with the product itself as Eastrock has been a pretty reliable source for a number of beginning and more affordable music related items, and this guitar bow is no exception. I've had some experience with the and bowing, so while the technique for a long bow is pretty well engrained, the EASTROCK Guitar Bow will require some amount of practice to become accomplished. I will likely use this guitar bow for a few guitar parts specifically designed around it.My personal opinion is that this "short" guitar bow would be better oriented to beginners simply because there is going to be an approach and style difference between a short and long bow. Same difference between flat picking and fingerpicking with picks that attach to your fingers. If you have never used a bow of any length on a guitar before, 'what you don't already know' might be helpful in learning how to use the EASTROCK Guitar Bow from the very beginning. The guitar bow itself is very well constructed and gives you just about everything you need to get started. The bow, rosin, sandpaper (to rough the rosin) and a screwdriver to adjust the bow tension. It all comes in a nice box that as the product page mentions is "gift box" quality, and better yet, designed to keep your EASTROCK Guitar Bow safe and secure when not in use. That's an important feature with a bow because they are delicate and the horse hair will eventually break. I should note that there are no specific instructions included that address replacing the horse hair, but it really shouldn't be all that difficult. The instructions do include how to tighten or loosen the bow tension so that is ultimately going to be a part of the eventual horse hair replacement.I also tried picking and plucking with the guitar bow but didn't feel entirely comfortable with the technique. Depending upon your own music style, I can easily see a person learning simple melodies (both bowed and plucked) that don't require the same amount of finesse as playing the lead to an upbeat rock song. It's all going to be a matter of personal preference and taste in music. The EASTROCK Guitar Bow is very fairly priced for what it is, and if you've ever priced a full size bow, you'll understand why I find it a fair price point. For what you get and for what the EASTROCK Guitar Bow can do, I would recommend the EASTROCK Guitar Bow to others for their own use, or at the very least a novelty item.Four Stars
